Zangbo and Zing Zing Bar
Z is for ‘Zangbo and Zing Zing Bar‘
I am sure almost everyone must be wondering what I am talking about (save for the rare few who might actually know!). ‘Zangbo and Zing Zing Bar’ is one of the around 250 movies made under the umbrella of the CFSI (Children’s Film Society of India). This was, I think, the first ‘made-for-children’ movie that I saw as a child and somehow, that fact, as well as the setting in which we watched it – it was, as I recall, a special treat for all of the kids at school on a school-day afternoon – made this movie a memory for a lifetime for me!! It is a movie about a boy named Zangbo and his pet dog (Zing Zing Bar); and their adventures. Sadly, many of these CFSI movies are not as well-known or popular as main-stream Indian movies (of any language) and there are many gems waiting to be discovered. As I looked through the catalogue of movies, I realized I have barely seen a handful of them myself.
And while I am not sure how or where I can get to watch this particular movie again with my kids, this movie’s title did help me come up with a Z post and I am glad for that:) And we are definitely watching other Indian children’s movies together to make more memories (as well as reading the books where the movies are based on books – that is very important for me – read the books first where possible before the movies; but if not, read the book anyway and you might find the book is better)!!

How interesting! In the 1960s, the US program Kukla, Fran and Ollie had a CBS Saturday Film Festival that showed movies from other countries, and I was enthralled. Years ago, a student loaned me some VHS tapes of some Bollywood movies, and those were fun, too. I hope you can locate your favorites!

I simply love Bollywood movies – they really are quite the thing in the UK now, but children's movies I've never come across. Thank you so much for spending time with us in Amble Bay. We'll miss you!

How interesting to read out your movies and watching them with the kids is awesome! Growing up, we didn't have television and I probably wouldn't remember movies were even around 60 years ago! LOL
🙂 regarding television, it reached our part of India (where I grew up) when I was around 10 years old.. so before that, it was mainly the radio or movies that were screened in the local theater weekly on Saturday evenings.. we would all go – it was more of a neighborhood thing than watching the movie itself 🙂
"Chota Chetan" is my all time favorite when I think of the children's movies. I have watched it when I was a child and the 3D effect it had, in those days was something simply out of the world kind of experience! And yes then there is a big list like Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Frozen,…I mean mostly Disney Pixar movies!

Favorite made for children's movie just in zaniness: Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. A girl turns into a blueberry, a boy falls into a river of chocolate, another boy shrinks so small that he can fit into a television (a little one). Just so entertaining and fun!
Love that movie too – and prefer the older version of it than the newer one 🙂 And love Roald Dahl….
