Friday Memes
Book Beginnings on Friday
is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More
Pages. Here’s what you do: Share the first line (or
two) of the book you are currently reading on your
blog or in the comments section. Include the title and
author so we know what you’re reading.
The Friday 56 is a bookish meme
sponsored by Freda’s Voice. It is really easy to participate. Just
grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56. Find a sentence that grabs
you and post it.
For Book Beginnings: I am actually reading two books in parallel(!) so here they are, the beginnings:
From American Rust:
Isaac’s mother was dead five years but he hadn’t stopped thinking about her. He lived alone
in the house with the old man, twenty, small for his age, easily mistaken for a boy.
Meyer, Philipp (2009-02-18). American Rust: A Novel (p. 3). Spiegel & Grau. Kindle Edition.
From Wings of Fire: An Autobiography (A P J Abdul Kalam with Arun Tiwari)
I was born into a middle-class Tamil family in the island town of Rameswaram in the erstwhile Madras state. My father,Jainulabdeen, had neither much formal education nor much wealth;despite these disadvantages, he possessed great innate wisdom and a true generosity of spirit. He had an ideal helpmate in my mother,Ashiamma. I do not recall the exact number of people she fed every day, but I am quite certain that far more outsiders ate with us than all the remembers of our own family put together.
For Friday 56:(again from the same two books)
From American Rust:
By a certain age, people had their own trajectory. The best you could do was try to nudge them into a different course, though for the most part, it was like trying to catch a body falling from a skyscraper.
Meyer, Philipp (2009-02-18). American Rust: A Novel (p. 56). Spiegel & Grau. Kindle Edition.
From Wings of Fire: An Autobiography (A P J Abdul Kalam with Arun Tiwari)
Evaluating one’s own progress in life is not an easy task. Here the student has to set his own questions, seek his own answers and evalute them to his own satisfaction.
A couple of interesting sounding books! Thanks!
Great round-up – and two books at once! 🙂
Thanks for the visit! Your blog name's play on words is really cute! Oh, and thanks for the sweet comment – anything sweet, cute, pink and reading-related is bound to find me 😛
@AbbyThanks for visiting..
@aloiThank you! for your compliment and visiting my blog.. my fascination with pink has increased more because of my 5 year old daughter!
These books sound interesting! Funny but i usually read two books in unison as well!
@art2cee2They are both interesting – I had American Rust on my TBR for a long time and finally reading it.. And we also have the same blogger template. Sometimes I read more than two books too (but I try to keep them really of varied types so I dont get confused!)
