Finding Peace and Love + Fun Fire & Flapping Flip Flops

July 7th is International Peace and Love Day introduced by the Beatles’ drummer Richard Starkey aka Ringo Starr (7th is his birthday). So today’s post is looking for ways for finding peace and love. (Kind of anyways).. here is to finding peace & love with fun, fire, flip flops and flapping wings too, among many other ways.

Books Full of Fun Fire & Flip Flop Flaps

Here is a whole list of books for you for the letter F.. In case you didn’t realize, I am going alphabetically this month once again and trying to get my Netgalley/Edelweiss pending reviews lowered a minute fraction at least.

The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World

The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World by Matt Kracht (Humor/Bird Field Guides | Chronicle Books)

Description: This must-have sequel to the bestselling parody book The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America proves that all birds are fascinating, wonderful, idiotic jerks—no matter where in the world they reside.

My Quick Thoughts: OMG! LOL! ROTFL! This book made me feel all that though not in acronyms! You will learn while laughing throughout.. a book that you need in your life NOW (not an acronym)! And it is a sequel so that means I am looking for the first one already.

Note: The book does have swear words so definitely for older readers (YA and older)

Fire Shapes the World

Fire Shapes the World by Joanna Cooke with illustrations by Cornelia Li and Diana Renzina. Children’s Nonfiction | 4 – 8 years, and up | Yosemite Conservancy | June 13, 2023)

Description: This book is both a natural history and a child-friendly portrayal of fire ecology. It is also an encouraging springboard for conversation illuminated by breathtaking paintings, which will allow children to explore their connection to this most elemental agent of change.

My Quick Thoughts: Stunning artwork accompanies the almost lyrical narrative to show the power of fire in all its forms (from creating to restoring to its destructive ones too). Don’t miss the author’s note at the end.

Flipflopi

Flipflopi: How a Boat Made from Flip-Flops Is Helping to Save the Ocean by Linda Ravin Lodding and Dipesh Pabari with illustrations by Michael Machira Mwangi. (Children’s Nonfiction/Environment Books | 4 – 8 years, and up | Beaming Books | March 14, 2023)

Description: This inspirational tale demonstrates how innovation, art, and determination can transform plastic pollution into something useful. From 30,000 flip-flops and other plastic waste collected from the Kenyan coast came the boat named Flipflopi.

My Quick Thoughts: Simple straightforward text and warm, vibrant illustrations bring this true story to life beautifully. Backmatter includes interesting future project information and tips on how each of us can help reduce plastic pollution.

Fun With 50 States

Fun with 50 States: A Big Activity Book for Kids about the Amazing United States by Nicole Claesen and art by Candela Ferrández. (Children’s Activity Books | 6 – 10 years and up | Z Kids | August 24, 2021)

Description: Whether you want to learn more about your amazing country, take a virtual trip that reveals hidden attractions, or have fun with activities and wacky facts, Fun with 50 States is an educational and exciting guided tour of the USA.

My Quick Thoughts: It is a fun way for kids to learn about the United States with loads of activities including word-searches, mazes, coloring pages, and much more.

Finding Peace and Love With Books and More

Words can help us find peace and love and whatever else we wish for. They help us learn, reflect, ponder, look beyond the pages we are reading, and reach out for all that and more.

Find Your Peace

Find Your Peace: A Workbook for a More Mindful Life by Kiki Ely (Self-help Workbooks | Wellfleet Press | August 23, 2022)

Description: With wise advice and helpful exercises, this beautifully designed, interactive workbook will help you find a path toward a more mindful daily life.

My Quick Thoughts: I am enjoying the exercises within this book and realize I picked it up (unintentionally) at a time I really needed to practice mindfulness. This is however, a great resource sure to help everyone.

And Now, the End of This Post

Dear reader, which of these books have you read? Or would pick up first to read? Any similar recommendations for me?

Thanks to Netgalley/Edelweiss and the publishers for the digital ARCs of all the books today.
