I love the color yellow! It brightens spaces everywhere, warms us from inside out, makes everything cheerful (for me at least!), and reminds me of all the favorite yellow things I love. I also love the other fiery colors, like red and orange but yellow is at the very top of my fav colors list, and I recall almost blinding my DH when I paired a bright yellow top with a flowy full length yellow skirt long ago…:-)
Anyways, today (on my birthday!), I am focusing on books with yellow colors. They do tend to call our attention to them with their brightness and then when you pick them up and realize you will enjoy what is within, well, then they become part of your favorite books list as well.

Yellow Books I Love
The Ones I Own (Physical Books, I Mean)
I have so many more books with yellow on the cover but I picked the top ten among them here. Or rather, the first ten that caught my eye 🙂
- Black Beauty. Among my first favorite books ever…
- Dear America, Notes of an Undocumented Citizen. I read this book as part of a writing course I took a few years ago at a local community college, and loved it. Now my daughter is reading it as well. Plus, the author is local to the Bay Area
- The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. I am pretty sure that Calpurnia is one of my alter-egos!
- Fancy Nancy Tea Parties. Among my daughter’s favorite books when she was little. I adore this series for the artwork and the precocious little protagonist. And we came up with a tea party Fancy Nancy style ages ago for my little girl.
- Good Poems for Hard Times. Picked it up at a local Goodwill, and so glad I did.
- The Guide by R. K . Narayan. Loved the movie, devoured the book.
- Gut. One of the many airport buys over the years. And I picked it up way before gut-health became the trendy topic it is.. Now I wonder why I did not feature this before:)
- Honor. One of my favorite reads of last year.
- Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. This book is another on my favorite reads ever for many reasons. Bookish book set in the bay area being the top ones among them.
- The Room of Many Colors. Bond, Ruskin Bond, I mean is a talented writer indeed, and this book is a delight to read.
Other Books With Yellow Covers I Loved
- Curious George. My kids (and us adults too) loved watching the Curious George show, and that led me to buy the book (though it is on this list rather than the one above because I couldn’t find it!)
- How to Re-read a Novel. I started reading this a few months ago and life took me away from it. Now I need to get back to this interesting read. (btw, i am all for rereading!)
- Hyperbole and a Half. So much fun and wisdom within!
- I Choose Yellow. An adorable, heartwarming, inspiring picture book #chooseyellow. And like the character in the book, today (and everyday too), I choose to be yellow in all its moods!
- Love that Dog. Oh my…
- The Red Ear Blows its Nose. A poetry book that teaches and entertains all at the same time.
- The Spell of a Story. A recent read I adored – about the magic of reading.
- Three Lines in a Circle. A picture book telling the story behind the peace symbol. Read it!
- The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: Vol 3. Brilliant and now I like Joseph Gordon-Levitt even more!
- Words for the Heart. Like the description says, this book is a treasury of classical Indian terms for expressing the many moods and subtleties of emotional experience. I learned a lot about words I thought I knew!
(not pictured: The Yellow Wallpaper/We Should All be Feminists/….)
Yellow-Covered Non-Fiction Books I Need to Read
- Better Small Talk. While I do find it easy to strike up conversations with anyone, even strangers, I also know I can improve my small talk (and big talk) skills a lot. So this book is on my TBR now
- Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art. I started reading this book earlier this year, and somehow stopped in between all those zillions of breaths from then to now…
- The Courage to be Happy. My friends will say I am optimistic and always looking at the positive side of things. But I still believe I can work on these strengths some more, hence this book.
- The Design of Everyday Things. Love the concept of this book and know I will learn a lot I can apply to the everyday parts of life.
- Hooked. Habits, habits, habits..
- The Mental Toughness Handbook.
- The Miracle Morning. I used to be a morning person and loved it. Over the years, life and family habits changed me. But now, as I turn another year older, I want to adopt the ‘wiser’ aspect of turning older and work on achieving the miracle morning for myself. Hope reading this gets me there sooner than later.
- The Power of Discipline. I need some in my life…
- The Power of Habit. Charles Duhligg is a super-writer. I think I read part of this a while ago but now I need to re-read this as well as Supercommunicators.
- Rewire. I definitely have a few bad habits I need to break!
This goes towards Top Ten Tuesday
Other Favorite Things in this Sunshine-y Color
So much to love that is yellow! Like mangoes and bananas (among my favorite fruits), sunflowers and marigolds and yellow roses, bees and smileys, lemon bars and sunshine, Tweety and Spongebob, and many many more!
And Now, the End of This Post
Dear reader, which of these books have you read/love? Or which one would you pick first for yourself/a loved one? Let me know in the comments. Any other favorite books with yellow covers?
I like the power of discipline. Great book.
Some of these books sound so good. Curious George was always a favorite of mine as a kid.
These yellow books would brighten up my bookcase. I do love some of the titles.
Vidya, your post shows your creative brilliance, as always! Now I must look for what yellow books I have. Let’s include grapefruit and butter in the wonderful yellow things! (Maybe deer crossing signs as well?) I am not surprised you love yellows. You are such a warm, vivid person. How wonderful to know you.
Happy Birthday! I myself love the color pink. Enjoy all the yellow today.
I absolutely adore this celebration of yellow! It’s such a vibrant color that brings so much joy. Your selection of yellow-covered books is fantastic—each one seems to offer a unique and enriching experience. Thanks for sharing these sunny recommendations and happy birthday!
Yellow is such a cheerful colour.
Wow! What a nice collection of books. Yellow is a bright color that signifies sunshine, I am hapoy that you have this kind of books.
Happy birthday! Yellow is such a cheerful color, isn’t it? It’s great that you’re celebrating with books that brighten your day as much as the color itself does!
Happy birthday yesterday! I hope it was a wonderful day full of everything and everyone you love 🙂
Yellow is a favorite color of mine as well. All of the walls in my house are painted a pale yellow. It’s bright and cheery and it just makes me happy. I’m glad I’m not the only yellow lover.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Susan
